The breakaway end of the cable contains 37 individually spring-loaded, gold-plated connectors which are held together by magnets.  When married to an adapter “brick”, the cable maintains connectivity while resisting damage and corrosion.  The polarity of the magnets prevent caregivers from seating the contacts in the wrong direction.
